Benefit Watch V

I've decided to revive my "Benefit Watch" tag. I think this is the fifth. At least we'll just say it is. Anyway...

A ONE-NIGHT-ONLY BENEFIT FOR SONNET REPERTORY THEATRE

Sonnet Sings the Bard:
An Evening of Original Songs Inspired by the Work of William Shakespeare

Sonnet Repertory Theatre (SRT) announces lineup for Sonnet Sings: The Bard, the company’s annual benefit event. Scheduled performers include: two time Tony-nominated actor Terrence Mann (Lennon, The Rocky Horror Show, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Beauty and the Beast, Jerome Robbins' Broadway, Les Miserables, Cats, Barnum) and Tony award-winning and Grammy award-nominated composer Duncan Sheik (Spring Awakening), performing their original songs, in addition to Will Chase (High Fidelity, Lennon, The Full Monty, Aida, Rent Miss Saigon), Bradley Dean (Company, Man of La Mancha, Jane Eyre), two time Tony-nominated actor Brian d'Arcy James (The Apple Tree, The Lieutenant of Inishmore, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Sweet Smell of Success, Titanic, Carousel, Blood Brothers), David Miller (member of the triple-platinum operatic pop quartet Il Divo, Rodolfo in Baz Luhrmann's production of Puccini's La Boheme, Metropolitan Opera's La Traviata), Brandon Wardell (Good Vibrations, Assassins, Thoroughly Modern Millie, James Joyce's The Dead), Q. Smith (Les Miserables, Smokey Joe's CafĂ© with Gladys Knight, Fame) backed by members of the Les Mis cast, and Rachel Ulanet (Lovemusik, Beauty and the Beast).

Contributing composers include: Tony and Drama Desk award-winners Adam Guettel (The Light in the Piazza, Floyd Collins) and William Finn (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, A New Brain, Falsettos), the creative duo of Amanda Green & Tom Kitt (High Fidelity), MAC and Bistro award-winner Zina Goldrich (upcoming Broadway production of Ever After, the cabaret staple Taylor, the Latte Boy), MAC award-nominated Steve Marzullo (Audra McDonald's I Hid My Love, and Somedays), Pulitzer Prize, Drama Desk and Tony award-winning author Marsha Norman (Night Mother, The Secret Garden, The Color Purple), and Terrence Mann and Duncan Sheik, each performing their original material.

With Sonnet Sings: The Bard, for the first time ever as part of its annual fundraiser, SRT will debut original songs, inspired by Shakespeare’s cannon. SRT, a non-profit company dedicated to classic theatre for the modern planet, plans to focus its annual benefit gala on exploring classic playwrights’ work through original song, relying on future inspiration from such greats as Moliere, Chekhov, Ibsen and Shaw.

Sonnet Sings: The Bard features the musical direction of Kevin Stites, recognized for his work on Broadway’s Les Miserables, The Color Purple, Fiddler on the Roof, Titanic, among others. The evening will be hosted by Drama Desk award-nominated and MAC award-winning actress and singer, Christine Pedi (Forbidden Broadway, Talk Radio, and HBO’s The Sopranos). Douglas Braverman, whose humor has been published in NY Magazine and The Washington Post, will provide lyrics for a custom parody to showcase Pedi.
